Moving
can be traumatic but here is three main steps of moving checklist that should
help to reduce the stress. Print
this organizer and use it to check off the important "things to
do" as you prepare for your next move!
Step 1:
BEFORE MOVING
1.
Always prepare more boxes than you anticipate that you
will need. 2.
Avoid confusion by packing room by room. 3.
Clearly label those boxes “Fragile!” 4.
Make some boxes of essentials and label them.
5. Allow yourself plenty of time
to pack and organize.
Address
Change
1. Post
Office: Give Forwarding address 2.
Charge accounts, credit cards 3.
Subscriptions: notice requires several weeks 4.
Friends and relatives
Medical, Dental, Prescription Histories
1. Ask
Doctor and Dentist for referrals, transfer needed
prescriptions, eyeglasses, X-rays. Obtain birth records,
medical records, etc.
2. Check with your vet to get your pets records and a letter
of reference to a new vet.
Important
1. Obtain
school records for your children
2.
Check to see if your will must be rewritten when moving
across state lines
Don't Forget To:
1. Empty
freezer, defrost freezer and clean refrigerator.
2.
Have appliances serviced for moving
3.
Clean rugs or clothing before moving: have them moving -
wrapped
4.
Plan for special care needs of infants or pets
5.
Have car tuned up for trip if you are driving to your new
destination
Step 2: MOVING DAY
1. Prepare cash or travelers checks to cover costs of moving
or traveling
2.
Carry important document yourself
3.
Plan for transporting of pets
4. Let close friends or relatives know the route and
schedule
5.
Double check closets, drawers, shelves, and attic to be sure
they are empty
6.
Leave old keys, garage door openers, broiler pans,
landscape/house plans and instructional manuals needed by
new owner with Realtor or in kitchen drawer.
Step 3: AFTER MOVING
1. Obtain
certified check or cashier's check necessary for closing
Real Estate Transaction (check with title/escrow company for
details.)
2.
Check on service of telephone, gas, electricity, water and
garbage
3.
Check pilot light on stove, hot water heater and furnace.
Have appliances checked
4.
Ask Mailman for any mail he may be holding for your arrival
5.
Have a new address recorded on driver's license
6.
Apply for state Driver's license
7.
Register family in your new place of worship
8.
Register children in school
9.
Arrange for medical services: Doctor, Dentist, Vet, etc.
Bank
1. Transfer
funds, arrange check-cashing in new city
2.
Arrange credit references
Insurances
1. Notify company of new location for coverage: Life,
Health, Fire and Auto
2. Notify company of new location for 401K, IRA.
Retirements
1. Notify company of new location for 401K, IRA.
Utility Companies
1. Electrical, gas,
water, trash waste, telephone, internet, cable
2.
Get refunds on any deposits made
Delivery Services
1. Laundry,
newspaper/magazine, changeover
Pets
1. Ask about
regulations for licenses, vaccinations, tags, etc.
